Golfsmith
International, LLP
2000 NEW Component Clubhead Line
INFORMATION TO BE AWARE OF :
- For 2000 Golfsmith has greatly reduced the total number of component clubhead models. For example, in 1999 we had some 34 different sets of wood and iron heads, and for 2000 that number will be reduced to 20. The reasons are 1) 80% of the sales were made up by 15 of the models. 2) Too expensive to inventory all 34 models in all 28 of our retail store locations + at headquarters. 3) We want to focus more attention on the branded designs such as Snake Eyes, Harvey Penick and Golfsmith. No matter what, even though we are greatly reducing the model numbers, we will still have the best representative selection of different designs in the industry, from LH models (8 of the 20), to original designs.
- On new models, plus or minus tolerances have been reduced to the lowest in the industry, including among the OEMs. The quality of the manufacture is unsurpassed in all of the golf industry in our line. For 2000, ALL of our clubhead models are now made by only the foundries that are used by the major manufacturers to produce such models as the Taylor Made Burner, LCG, Firesole; Wilson Fat Shaft models; Mizuno T-Zoid and forged iron models; Hogan Apex; Cobra King Cobra models; Odyssey putter models; Carbite putter and wedge models; Adams Tight Lies stainless steel wood models; and many more.
- No other component company comes close to performing the R & D work to back its models as does Golfsmith. Other component companies talk about R & D, but any real proof or action does not substantiate their talk. This might make our designs cost a little more, but hardly enough more to cause any clubmaker to shy away from the products considering what they will be getting.
- We have completely re-designed our TI Series Titanium metal woods for 2000. They now are all computer modeled for precise face thickness design, they are all now forged for more strength in the faces to allow the computer face modeling to be more accurate than ever before, and they are lower priced because we have achieved production levels with the foundry that has gotten us a lower price that we have passed on to the clubmakers. TI 260CM (#3577, 3577L) and TI310CM (#3310) and TI Series fairway woods (3577, 3577L) will be priced at $79.50 for 2000 for the Ti-Series/260 and $84.50 for the 310. While the clubmakers might be able to buy Ti wood heads for less than that due to over capacity from lower quality foundries, there is NO way they will touch the quality of our line and still have a price reduction of more than $10 - $20 per head as we have done for 2000.
- More models of all different types of metals have been computer modeled for 2000 to deliver the best face thickness design we can possibly create for each individual model. For the first time we have different face thickness on fairway woods vs. the drivers. This is all done to try to maximize the transfer of energy from the head to the ball. We even have some models that have been even more precisely computer modeled to create a different face thickness for different levels of swing speed for golfers to have even more closely engineered energy transfer to the ball. NO other golf company, whether OEM or component company even comes close to this type of individual model engineering for its new model lines.
- The SNAKE EYES line is the premium focus point of the new lines for Golfsmith in 2000. Snake Eyes will consist of 4 different models of woods and irons and will offer supreme quality models for golfers from the lowest handicap player to the higher handicapper in search of game improvement. All Snake Eyes models are +/-2g weight and +/- 1 degree for loft, lie and face angle to deliver by FAR the best quality in the game. Clubmakers now have a BRAND NAME component that their customers will be very receptive to.
- The Harvey Penick line will join the rest of the Golfsmith component models in the main Golfsmith catalog for 2000. We have reduced the number of Penick component models for 2000 to make room for the Snake Eyes line, but we still will have a good selection of game improvement and mid level designs that are of supreme quality for 2000. Prices have been reduced as the line has been brought back into the main catalog.
- Golfsmith is the only component company to have its own ProEngineer/ProMechanica high end engineering workstation for performing design and impact modeling support for the clubhead design R & D. One other component company has a CAD drawing program to assist in some of its designs, but none other than Golfsmith have the FEA (finite element analysis) capability to use to predict the performance of the model before it is made. Joining the ProE/ProM high end design and FEA software this winter will be an entirely new high end engineering software package which will enable us to fully model the action of the golf shaft in the swing, under a variety of swing conditions. With this modeling program we hope to be able to see a completely dynamic read out of the shaft during the swing so that we can better understand how the shaft really works when used by all types of players.
We continue to have the only swing robot testing center in the entire component industry. Our center has been upgraded in 1999 to include an all new base for the swing robot itself which tightens the accuracy of the testing greatly, and a new laser camera based analysis & data gathering system to more accurately monitor the action of impact. This is now a >$250,000 center just for testing new clubhead designs and learning more about the dynamics of impact.
WOOD SETS
NEW SNAKE EYES WOODS FOR 2000
- SNAKE EYES CMF Woods – Stock no. SE3885 (driver). SE3886 (fairways)
- RH only in 6-4 Titanium/Tungsten Driver + 15-5 Stainless/Tungsten #3, 5, 7; All are precision investment cast for accuracy and face thickness control.
- Driver is 9.5 loft, #3 (14 deg), #5 (18 deg), #7 (22 deg)
- Driver is 260CC size; Fairways are 33mm face height for each (semi-shallow design)
- Tungsten is in the rear center of the sole and is shaped like the Snake Eyes Logo for a very cool look on the design of the head.
- Driver Tungsten amount is 30grams, Fairways are #3 (20g), #5(28g), #7 (32g); Rear sole location is to increase trajectory and carry distance for all heads. This is one reason the stronger lofts on the #3, 5, 7 were chosen – so they don’t play as strong as the loft might indicate.
- CMF stands for COMPUTER MODELED FACE. Each of the heads was modeled for a different custom face thickness on Golfsmith’s Pro Engineer/Pro Mechanica CAD and FEA (Computer Aided Design and Finite Element Analysis) computer workstation. This was done to increase face deflection on each head in an effort to maximize energy transfer from head to ball.
- As a result of the CMF project, the face thickness’ are - #1w (2.75mm); #3 (2.5mm); #5 (2.45mm); #7 (2.3mm). The more the loft and the smaller the face, the thinner the face needs to be to deflect the same and therefore increase energy transfer from head to ball. Normal for all faces with other companies is 3mm thick. No internal foam used in the construction.
- Weight bore in all heads. .335" parallel bore. Requires a Ferrule. Special Snake Eyes logo’d ferrules are available.
- The Snake Eyes CMF Driver is the ONLY titanium driver in the Snake Eyes line.
- SNAKE EYES VIPER MS Woods (for Men) Stock No. SE3500, SE3500L
* RH in #1 (9.5); #1 (11); #3, 5, 7; LH in #1 (9.5), #3, 5, 7. Head construction is all 15-5 investment cast stainless steel.
- Viper MS Faces are all computer modeled to thin the faces to their minimum level as a way to increase face deflection and reduce ball deformation at impact, which is the key to increased ball velocity off the face. Driver is 2.8mm, #3-wood is 2.5mm, #5-wood is 2.5mm, #7-wood is 2.4mm. All other straight stainless models are made with 3mm faces in ALL the heads in the set.
- Driver is 225cc volume. Fairway woods are 33.5mm in the #3 and #5 and 33mm in the #7.
- Snake Eyes "Moat" style sole design allows for more metal to be positioned lower for lower CG and for extending the perimeter weighting of the head.
- This is the "bread and butter" Snake Eyes metal wood design for year 2000. Expected 1st Column Pricing to be $29.50 per head.
- Weight bore in all heads. .335" parallel bore. Requires a Ferrule. Special Snake Eyes logo’d ferrules are available.
- The Snake Eyes Viper MS the ONLY all stainless steel metal wood model in the Snake Eyes line.
- SNAKE EYES VIPER LS Woods (for Ladies) Stock No. SE3600
- RH only in #1 (11); #3, 5, 7; Head construction is all 15-5 investment cast stainless steel.
- Driver is 215cc volume with 40mm face height. Fairway woods are 32.5mm in the #3 and #5 and 32mm in the #7. Face angles are intentionally ½ degree hook.
- Viper MS Faces are all computer modeled to thin the faces to their minimum level as a way to increase face deflection and reduce ball deformation at impact, which is the key to increased ball velocity off the face. Lady LS Driver is 2.6mm, #3-wood is 2.4mm, #5-wood is 2.4mm, #7-wood is 2.25mm. All other straight stainless models are made with 3mm faces in ALL the heads in the set. As a result of the thinner modeling of the faces expressly for lady swing speeds, NO ONE who swings a driver in excess of 75mph should use this model.
- Snake Eyes "Moat" style sole design allows for more metal to be positioned lower for lower CG and for extending the perimeter weighting of the head.
- This is the "bread and butter" Snake Eyes lady metal wood design for year 2000. Expected 1st Column Pricing to be $29.50 per head.
- Weight bore in all heads. .335" parallel bore. Requires a Ferrule. Special Snake Eyes logo’d ferrules are available.
- The Snake Eyes Viper LS the ONLY all stainless steel lady metal wood model in the Snake Eyes line.
- SNAKE EYES ELASTEEL DRIVERS AND 3-WOODS Stock No. SE3880
- Drivers introduced in June 1999. The matching #3 woods are new for 2000.
- RH only in 3 different swing speed drivers and 3-woods. 75-90mph Driver (11 deg) and 3-wood (15 deg); 90-105mph Driver (10 deg) and 3-wood (14 deg); >105mph Driver (9 deg) and 3-wood (13 deg).
- Each Driver and 3-wood has a different face thickness to create the same type of trampoline effect face design for each level of player swing speed. Players with lower swing speeds must use thinner faces than players with higher swing speeds to be able to deflect the face of the wood enough to increase the energy transfer between clubface and ball. Therefore, the lower the swing speed rating of the wood head, the thinner the face of the design. NO THIN FACE WOOD DESIGN CAN CREATE THE SAME AMOUNT OF DEFLECTION FOR ALL SWING SPEEDS OF PLAYERS. PERIOD.
- Special high strength, high elasticity steel with 200,000 psi yield strength – strength as high as some Maraging steels but this alloy has much higher elasticity. This allows the thinner face designs to deflect inward more than normal (0.029" amount of deflection) as compared to other stainless drivers with normal 3mm face thickness (0.013" amount of deflection). Elasteel is custom formulated for Golfsmith by only one metallurgical company in the world.
- The specially engineered face designs are known to increase ball velocity off the face for greater distance as well as a "hot" impact feel. Because the face is deflecting more than most other wood designs, the feeling of impact is "HOT".
- This is the "highest performance" Snake Eyes metal wood design for year 2000. Expected 1st Column Pricing to remain $59.50 per head.
- Weight bore in all heads. .335" parallel bore. Requires a Ferrule. Special Snake Eyes logo’d ferrules are available.
- SNAKE EYES QUICK STRIKE UTILITY DRIVING IRON/WOODS Stock No. SE3900
- The latest rage on the PGA Tour is the hollow body driving iron/wood, which a lot of the Tour Players use as a replacement for the longest irons. These new models are a 17-4 stainless + Tungsten weight design to increase trajectory and improve the distance from off-center hits.
- Available in a family of three (3) different models in RH only to replace the #1, 2, and 3 irons.
- Accepts a wood shaft with .335" tip diameter.
- All models have the weight bore feature for final swingweight adjustment.
- SNAKE EYES MARAGING STEEL FACE WOODS Stock No. SE3770
- Introduced in April 1999 as the first of the new Snake Eyes metal wood designs. This is a set of RH only, #1 (10.5), #3, 5, 7 woods with 17-4 body and Maraging steel face made from Carpenter Steel’s Custom 455 alloy.
- Each head in the set of metal woods has a different thickness of the C-455 alloy used in the construction of the face. This is because the shorter face heights of the fairway woods require less thickness to deflect inward, and because as the loft increases the ball has less of a tendency to deflect the face inward. Hence, the driver is 2.5mm thick, the #3 wood is 2.3mm thick, the #5 wood 2.25mm thick and the 7-wood is 2.2mm thick. No other set of Maraging steel woods changes the face thickness through the same set.
- The C-455 faces are NOT welded into the face as are most all other Maraging steel face sets. The faces are press fitted and then lip encased by the outline of the edges of the head body. By eliminating the weld line from the face surface, the faces then are able to deflect slightly more and thus transfer a slightly higher amount of energy to the impact.
- All heads have the Golfsmith weight bore hosel for final swingweight adjustment in the assembly of the clubs.
- Driver is 42mm face height, fairways are semi-shallow at 33mm face height. Driver is 215cc volume.
NEW GOLFSMITH WOODS FOR 2000
- GOLFSMITH TI-STEEL 465 Woods – Stock No. 3465
- Completely new construction employing a fully forged wraparound face + hosel welded to an investment cast back body made of 17-4 stainless steel. The forged face is made from super high strength Carpenter Custom 465 steel.
- Available inn RH only in 9.5 degree Driver + 14 degree #3 wood.
- Custom 465 steel has 1.5% Titanium content which is very unusual for a steel alloy. The presence of the titanium with the higher content of chromium and molybdenum allows the Custom 465 alloy to be heat treated to a yield strength of over 250,000 psi. This is almost 2 times the strength of 17-4 stainless steel.
- Forging the face gives the Custom 465 a higher strength and better ductility than casting. By forging the Custom 465 alloy, the face can be designed much thinner than other steel faces to increase face deflection. This increase of driver face deflection to 0.042" and 3-wood deflection to 0.034" allows the ball to deform less at impact, which increases the energy transfer to the ball and increases the ball velocity off the face. This increased face deflection is also the key to the "hot" feel of impact off the face.
- Ti Steel woods perform to their optimum level for golfers with a swing speed of 95 – 110 mph.
- By making the face/hosel piece as a wrap-around construction, the welding line is kept completely off the face which allows the face to deflect more consistently for greater energy transfer.
- Weight bore in all heads. .335" parallel shaft bore. Requires a ferrule. Special Snake eyes logo’d ferrule available.
- This is the metal wood with the greatest amount of face deflection in the entire Golfsmith line.
- Driver has 43mm face height and is 225cc volume. #3 wood is 33.5mm face height which sits low behind the ball and yet will not swing under the shot as will some truly shallow face designs 0.028" )
- GOLFSMITH TITANIUM SERIES Woods – Stock No. 3577, 3577L (TI260/Series) 3310 (310)
- This is a modernization re-design of the TI260/310 and TI Series fairway woods. Available in TI260 8, 9.5, 11 loft in RH, Ti 260 9.5 in LH, Ti 310 in 10 loft in RH and in #3, 5, 7 in RH. All heads made from 6-4 Titanium.
- The head shapes are the same as before on the very popular 260/310/Series titanium woods, but the construction is now ALL FORGED and not investment cast. Changing to all forged was done because 1) Forging allowed the 6-4 titanium to be formed to a higher strength than in cast form. 2) This allows the faces to be computer modeled to become thinner than they were in cast form. Hence the energy transfer from the head to the ball will be slightly higher for each of the designs than were these heads when they were cast.
- TI Series fairway woods are semi shallow face height (33mm) but with broad head shape to make the heads look more substantial in overall size. The Ti 260 drivers are all 260cc and the Ti 310 is 310cc volume. The Ti 310 is the largest driver in the Golfsmith line now.
- GOLFSMITH CERMET MMC BI-METAL WOODS – midyear 2000
- The latest model to use the exclusive Golfsmith Cermet Metal Matrix Composite material, these woods are a #1, 3, 5 set in RH only that combines the very lightweight MMC material with heavy tungsten to create a supreme game improvement set of woods.
- Modern sole design allows the twin tungsten weights to be positioned far from each other on the toe and heel sides of the head, but also so that the combined weight of the two tungsten weights will shift the CG of the heads toward the heel. This heel located CG will reduce the tendency of the ball to fade by changing the gear effect of a center impact shot, and by helping the face to rotate to more square coming into impact.
- Driver is 260cc volume with a 44mm face height for full modern driver sizing. Fairway woods are semi-shallow with full front to back size.
- Tungsten weight in the driver comprises a full 30% of the driver’s total mass and 40% of the fairway wood mass to be able to greatly enhance the forgiveness of the overall design.
- The other main benefit of the Cermet material is the way that the ceramic particles in with the metal reduces vibration, especially with off-center hits. This increases the distance able to be achieved from off center hits.
- Weight bore hosel for final swingweight adjustment in all heads.
- GOLFSMITH BI-METAL TITANIUM + TUNGSTEN CM DRIVER – Stock No. 3578
- The most high-end driver in the new Titanium Series CM family of titanium woods is the TI BI-METAL titanium + tungsten driver. Available in one driver only in RH, in 10 degrees loft.
- Follows a totally new 260cc volume driver head shape. The model has twin tungsten weights on the toe and heel sides of the sole for more forgiveness on off center hits. In addition, the tungsten weights are on the sole so that they can contribute to lowering the Center of Gravity for increasing shot trajectory and with it, more carry distance.
- Forged 6-4 titanium construction. Also the model is computer modeled to allow the face thickness to be reduced to be able to increase the energy transfer to the ball for more ball velocity at impact with a "hotter" feel at impact.
- Weight bore hosel design for final swingweight adjustment during assembly.
NEW HARVEY PENICK WOODS for 2000
- HARVEY PENICK MARAGING PLUS WOODS – Stock No. P3998
- The newest set of game improvement woods in the Penick line of component designs. A 15-5 stainless body with custom Maraging steel faces for increased energy transfer to the ball.
- Available in RH only in #1 (9 degree), #3, #5, #7. Driver is a full sized 215cc design with 42mm face height. Fairway woods are semi-shallow at 33.5mm face height.
- Tungsten weight is on the rear of the sole in a square shape with the sole number engraved on top. Rear sole tungsten weight is designed to lower the CG and enhance trajectory for a higher flight and greater carry distance.
- This set is intended for the middle to higher handicapper. Lower handicappers who want a Penick design should use the Penick Professional Tour woods.
NEW GENERIC BRAND METAL WOODS FOR 2000
- O/S PROJECT METAL WOODS – Stock No. 3169
- Investment cast from 15-5 stainless steel, this is the set of woods in the line that keeps the face height on the fairway woods taller for those players who do not like the shallow or semi-shallow face height. O/S Project has always been for an oversize design, so in modern styling this is larger than most of the other Golfsmith all – stainless wood designs.
- Available in #1(10.5), #3, 5, 7 in RH only. All heads have the Golfsmith hosel weight bore for swingweighting.
- "Swept-Back" head design styling, in which the sole sweeps back and up to meet the top of the head. This gives the heads a little more aerodynamic shape, and also helps to keep the CG lower to offset the CG raising effect of the taller face height.
- Unique asymmetrical sole design is created to make the O/S woods be a modern style.
- Driver is 230mm head volume with 42mm face height. Heads are all non-foamed for 1) Modern high tech sound preferred by most golfers, 2) To allow the face to deflect to its full extent and thus transfer a small amount of more energy to the ball at impact.
- XPC3 UTILITY DRIVING IRONS/WOODS – Stock No. 2233 – Possible delay until Mar. 2000
- This is the XPC3 version of the hollow body driving iron/wood that has become popular on the PGA TOUR as a replacement for long irons.
- Available in two (2) lofts in RH only – 15 degrees and 18 degrees to replace the #1 and 2 irons.
- All stainless steel design with no tungsten weight. These models will be the lower priced alternative to the Snake Eyes Quick Strike designs which have the tungsten weight in the sole.
- All models have the weight bore for final swingweight adjustment and accept a .335" parallel tip wood shaft.
IRON SETS
NEW SNAKE EYES IRONS FOR 2000
- SNAKE EYES TC-01 Irons – Stock No. SE2770, SE2770L
- Introduced in April of 1999, this model of players’ profile cavity back irons soon became a very popular model. The set will be expanded for 2000 to include the LEFT HAND version, which debuts in the fall of 1999.
- Traditional iron profile shape which means no oversize shape. Progressive minimal offset hosel design from 3mm in the long irons to 1.5mm in the short irons, but then back to 2mm in the wedges.
- Progressive heel and sole cavity weighting makes longer irons with lower CG and with more heel weighting to reduce the chance of pushed or faded shots.
- Full cambered sole radius from front to back makes these irons more forgiving and less susceptible to "fat" shots from all lie and turf conditions.
- All weight specs are +/-2g and +/-1/2 degree on loft and lie, which is tighter than any other component company can offer and deliver today.
- Investment cast from annealed 431 stainless steel for softer feel and polished to a brilliant mirror finish. Back cavity has the gold eye Snake Eyes logo for a very striking and beautiful look.
- PW loft/bounce = 48/5 degrees; SW loft/bounce = 55/12 degrees; LW loft/bounce = 60/6 degrees. Square grooves in all irons in the set.
- All heads have hosel weight bore for final swingweight adjustment in assembly. Threaded hosel is quality extra for better shaft to head adhesion. New Logo’d Snake Eyes ferrule now available for 2000.
- SNAKE EYES FORGED MC-01 Irons- Stock No. SE2557
- A true player’s forged blade design, picking up where the Smith & Wesson forging left off, but these are a much better sole design because the S & W forging were too flat and too sharp edged.
- Small compact blade design is a true muscleback with thin cambered sole. A Shallow Cavity (2mm deep) is forged just above the muscle part of the back of the blade to get rid of a little more weight high on the blade to keep the CG more forgiving. This shallow but small upper blade cavity makes the model a MUSCLE-CAVITY (hence the MC designation in the name).
- Fully forged from S45C mild carbon steel and double mirror chrome plated. No paint fill in the face lines. Face lines are all square grooved.
- All heads have the weight bore in the hosel for final swingweight adjustment. Threaded hosel for better shaft to head adhesion. .370" parallel bore.
- Available in RH only in #1 – 9 + PW. NO SW and LW because the Snake Eyes forged wedges are to be the wedge match to this forged iron set.
- Gold Eyes Snake Eyes logo on the back muscle of the blade for a very striking look.
- Matching Ferrule shipped with each forged MC-01 iron head because this model has a slightly larger hosel diameter.
- SNAKE EYES VIPER MS Irons – Stock No. SE2500, SE2500L
- The full game improvement mid to higher handicapper’s MEN’S iron model in the new Snake Eyes line for 2000
.

- Available in RH and LH in #3 – PW + SW, LW investment cast from standard 431 stainless steel and finished in a brilliant mirror polish.
- Full heel weighting through all heads in the set to help square the face coming into impact. This reduces the chance of a pushed or sliced iron shot and is proven technology from Golfsmith.
- Deep cavity back for greater forgiveness with off-center hits than any other Snake Eyes iron model.
- Blade profile is medium oversize and NOT full oversize to keep the CG lower for more game improvement.
- Weight bore in all heads for final swingweight adjustments. +/-2g weight tolerance and +/-1/2 degree tolerance for all heads for higher quality than any other company’s models. Threaded hosel for additional shaft to head security. Semi-barrel hosel can accept special ferrule or can be assembled without a ferrule as the lady customer chooses.
NEW GOLFSMITH IRON MODELS FOR 2000
- GOLFSMITH STERLING TUNGSTEN + STAINLESS Irons – Stock No. 2172
- A unique new stainless cavity back game improvement design with tungsten that moves position on the sole through the set for more specific game improvement.
- Twin Tungsten weights on each iron are set on the toe and heel sides of the sole for lowering the CG and helping the golfer get the ball easily up. But the OTHER FEATURE is that the tungsten weights move from the rear of the sole in the long and middle irons to the front of the sole in the short irons to control trajectory further for each head in the set. Tungsten back in the sole helps get the ball up more and tungsten moved forward helps to keep the short irons from ballooning the ball too high.
- Irons are investment cast from 431 stainless steel. Available in RH only in #2 – 9 + PW, SW and LW.
- Head shapes are all medium oversize – not full oversize.
- Weight bore in all hosels for final swingweight adjustment during assembly.
NEW HARVEY PENICK IRON DESIGNS FOR 2000
- HARVEY PENICK PLUS Stainless + Tungsten Irons – Stock No. P2998, P2999
The matching iron model for the new Penick Maraging Plus woods. This is the middle to higher handicapper iron model in the Penick line for 2000.
Only half of the irons in the set of Penick Plus irons have the tungsten weight (long and middle irons) while the others (short irons) are all stainless. The tungsten weight moves from the lower heel side of the head to the middle of the back sole part of the head as the set transitions from long to middle irons. Then on the short irons there is no tungsten on the back of the sole pad. The heel positioned tungsten is to correct fades and pushes and square the face coming into impact. The low center position of the tungsten on the middle irons is to lower the CG to increase trajectory and carry distance. No tungsten on the short irons is to prevent the CG from being too low and causing the shot to balloon too high.
Medium to traditional head profile shape on each head in the set. Tungsten weights are positioned in a lower weight area just up from the back of the sole. Cavity is deep and plain for more perimeter weighting and for a clean and traditional look.
All heads have the weight bore hosel for final swing weight adjustment during assembly.
NEW GENERIC IRON DESIGNS FOR 2000
- O/S PROJECT IRONS – Stock No. 2169
The latest generation of game improvement iron to carry the popular O/S Project name.
The new O/S Project Irons feature a very unique cavity design in which the cavity weight is "peaked" at different levels on each iron to assist with controlling trajectory through the set. The peak on the raised weight mass in the back cavity of each iron allows for the long irons to carry more mass low in the cavity to help get the ball up. This peaked mass of weight in the back cavity then slowly transitions up or higher in the cavity through each head in the set to prevent the CG from being too low in the higher lofted irons in the set.
The "peaked cavity mass" in the back of each O/S Project also increases the solid feel of impact in each head in the set.
Available in RH only in #2 – 9 + PW, SW, LW. All heads have the weight bore in the hosel to assist in making final swingweight adjustments during assembly.
NEW WEDGE DESIGNS FOR 2000

NEW PUTTER DESIGNS FOR 2000
An overview of some of the highlights in putter development for year 2000.
- SNAKE EYES MCS PUTTERS – SE4771, SE4771L, SE4772, SE4773
- A brand new family of very high end putter designs in a variety of shapes which all have a totally new ACRYLIC face insert in one of the models (SE4773). Golfsmith chose the ACR material for the face insert because it delivers a very soft feel but is not mushy. That means the ball speed off the insert is similar to metal but with a feel that makes the solid core balls feel much softer at impact.
- SNAKE EYES STAINLESS PUTTERS – SE4501, SE4501L, SE4502, SE4503
A new family of all stainless putter designs in the Snake Eyes name to be the classic and traditional all steel design. With milled face for accuracy and finished in a very attractive and very high quality gunmetal type of finish. This will be the lower cost line of putters in the new Snake Eyes line
